it is absolutely necessary that another Magistrate should
be sent to assist ne at once.
The suggested arrangement that Mr
Ballifax should only sit two days a week, I regret to say
will not answer at all. The pressure of work before the
Court requires the continued attendance of two Magistrates
Yesterday. I had-54 daily cases which

had to be completed before the tiffin hour as I had a case
fixed at 2.15 p.m.. I sat from 9 a.m. to about 1:25° p,n.
and deposed of: 37 cases, and the rest I had to adjourn to
this morning. I, however, fixed ball in all the cases,"I
need hardly point out the great inconvenience of having to
send away the witnesses in these cases after they have
been in Court the whole day long- a number of them being
men of business.
